Sherbro Island, Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone & Togo
  • 150,000 mangrove trees planted, community-maintained
  • 300 beehives constructed, now producing honey
  • 50 community members trained as professional beekeepers
  • 150 community members trained as nature teams (planting/protecting mangroves)
  • 5 schools (~2,000 students) educated through an EG climate justice seminar and debate competition

Tagba, Togo

Togo
  • 21,000 trees planted to date
  • 123 acres (50 hectares) of forest created/conserved under community management
  • 200 community members trained in agroecology and regenerative agriculture
  • 2 women's cooperatives created, led by a women's farmers group, to strengthen the local economy

Matchalè, Togo

Togo
  • 50 women trained in agroecology
  • 30 women trained in agribusiness
  • 50 community members reached with land rights awareness for women
  • Agricultural equipment provided to women's market gardening groups
  • 7.4 acres (3 hectares) secured for the women's group to practice agroecology and grow food for the community

  • 30 local practitioners trained in agroecology and regenerative agriculture
  • Land rights discussion held with local leaders/authorities on behalf of small-scale farmers and market gardeners
  • Landscape study completed for a future community forest
